Comment on College Statistics 2022-23
Commenting on the Scottish Funding Council’s College Statistics 2022-23 published today (12 March), Shona Struthers, Chief Executive of Colleges Scotland said:
“This report gives us a helpful overview of students in colleges. It is really encouraging to see that there has been a significant increase in the number of students studying in colleges – up 5.1% since last year – which shows that people are seeing the immense value of learning new skills and getting qualifications at college. Both the total student headcount and number of enrolments have increased for a second consecutive year.
“The data shows that people are increasingly choosing to study on a part-time basis, upskilling or retraining in a flexible way to fit around their other commitments like work and family. The number of part-time further education students has increased 13% over the past decade. Colleges offer lots of flexible learning opportunities in-person and online which may be helping to drive this trend.
“The positive numbers show that students are making the positive choice to come to college, and that college education and skills are being recognised by businesses for work-based learning as an effective way of upskilling employees.”
